Did the insomnia cure again today: saw Sin City and House of Wax.

Some non-spoilery comments:
Sin City: Will never, ever, ever again believe Elijah Wood as Frodo; kudos to the makeup person who, probably knowing how much Micky Rourke shelled out on plastic surgery, decided to put him in a full-face latex application; good to see Mr. Rourke and Bruce Willis still proudly waving the flag for Older Men; with the number of castrations I'm starting to sense that Frank Miller might have father issues; it was hearting to be able to actually understand Benicio Del Toro for once; the casting director deserves a medal of honour; Michael Madsen seems to have lost weight; Clive Owen still makes me all hot and squishy, and no fair having him going the snog with Rosario Dawson! Which one's a girl supposed to feel jealous of??

(Overheard in the restroom after the show: "It was kinda gory, and they all talked like they were in a comic or something." Spot the girls who had no fucking idea what they were coming to see, and have probably never seen Rodriguez's previous efforts.)

House of Wax: Spotted stimpuppet in the opening scene, had a small yay-for-Brisbane-goths moment; I was not the only person in the theatre to applaud when Paris Hilton's character got killed; hooray for Dark Castle continuing the tradition of peopling their movies with dumb teenagers who've obviously never read the rules on how to survive horror movies.

bjoose bought me a Gir t-shirt! Now I don't even have to *sing* the doom song when all you eggheads start talking geek-speak, I can just point to the shirt! (Which, being as it's actually a child's size large and is thus slightly tight, will have the advantage of actually shutting you up rather than merely distracting and annoying you.)
